In 2005, Swiss academics and scientists from Amplifon SA undertook a two-year research project (OMARA ) that yielded an innovative hearing protector used by the Swiss Air Force.

50’s & 60’s
From small beginnings to market leaders
Amplifon was founded in Milan by Algernon Charles Holland. His aim was to provide and customize hearing solutions for the many people who were experiencing hearing problems in the aftermath of the Second World War. In those years the company became leader of the Italian market.
70’s & 80’s Our Research Center is launched In 1971, the Center for Research and Studies (CRS) is founded to promote clinical research and disseminate information on the advances and developments in the fields of audiology and otology.
Digital and international expansion
This decade saw Amplifon growing beyond the Italian borders: Amplifon Iberia was founded in Spain and was later also established in Portugal. With growth also came innovation. Amplifon was the first company to introduce digital hearing aids to Italy. This revolutionized customer service and allowed our hearing care solutions to become more and more customized.
1998 - 2000
Amplifon reaches America
By acquiring the market leader Miracle-Ear, Amplifon was able to extend its presence to the North American market - an important milestone towards international leadership.
Listing on the Stock Exchange
On June, 27th 2001, Amplifon was listed on the Italian Stock Exchange. Seven years later it became part of the STAR segment of excellence - the group of stocks committed to fulfilling stricter requirements.
2002 - 2009
Expansion to key markets
Amplifon’s international vision and growth through acquisitions became a hallmark of this period. The company not only strengthened its presence in key markets such as the U.S.A., the Netherlands and France, but also entered Canada, Hungary, Egypt, Germany, the United Kingdom & Ireland, Belgium & Luxembourg.
2010 – 2013
A truly global business
With the acquisition of National Hearing Care (NHC) points of sale in Australia, New Zealand and India, Amplifon became a global company with an extensive distribution network spread over five continents. In 2012, Amplifon entered Turkey by acquiring 51% of Maxtone. This acquisition meant Amplifon became active in 20 countries
2014 - 2015
Global, dynamic, ready to seize market opportunities: Amplifon kept on growing organically and through acquisitions. The Company acquired 60% of Medtechnica Orthophone to extend its presence to Israel, while opening the doors to the Brazilian market through the acquisition of 51% of Direito de Ouvir. In 2015, Amplifon exceeded the key threshold of one billion euros in sales and is today present in 22 countries
